“It’s summer, go create!”

“It’s summer, go create!” was the spiritual advice I received in the summer of 2025. From that line, Magpie & Finch has slowly become what it is today: a collaborative publishing company.
It started with continuous murmured prayer, toes in the sand of a lakeshore, and a re-reading of A Story of a Soul by St. Thérèse of Lisieux. 
The scenes of St. Thérèse's life leapt off the page, and I clearly saw the moments she spoke of that inspired her life and devotion.
Not being an artist, I knew the possibility of encapsulating these scenes was beyond me. 
I needed to find an artist.

I scoured the socials and Catholic groups until God worked the algorithm and John Paul The Great Catholic University showcased its graduating senior, Sophia Klein. I proceeded to stalk her Instagram until she graduated (creeper, I know). Since December 2025, we have collaborated on our first book together: The Martin Family: A St. Thérèse Coloring Book. It features twenty-eight original hand-drawn coloring pages depicting the early family life of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, her parents, Sts. Louis and Zélie, and her sisters. Included with each scene is a write-up narrating what happened and footnotes to the books we used as sources. From here, Magpie & Finch will produce many more original and delightful books focusing on faith, family, and nature. Magpie & Finch is run by Catholics for all.
